Michael Bounous March 19, 1957 - March 4, 2021

Michael Eugene Bounous, age 63, of Strafford, Missouri went to be with our Lord on Thursday, March 4, 2021 after a brief illness.

Mike, as he was fondly known, was born March 19,1957 to Eugene and Helane (Haddock) Bounous. Mike was a caring, honest and hardworking man who loved his farm, his wife, providing for his family and watching the deer on his property. He was a dedicated employee of Hiland Dairy for 14 years and had recently retired. On October 21, 2007 he was united in marriage to Rebecca Harrison.

Mike is survived by his wife, Rebecca, of the home, a step-daughter Breanna Blacksher, son-in-law Justin along with grandchildren Dalton and Dylan of Walnut Grove. His sister Vicki Sutton of Springfield, nephews Allen and Alex Sutton. His children Sarah and Samuel from his previous marriage, three beloved grandchildren and a multitude of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

We lost a good, honest man, loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed, but will live on forever in the loving hearts of his family and friends. Mike is truly home.

Memorial visitation will be 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 10, 2021 in Barnes Family Funeral Home. Honoring Mike’s wishes his family will have a celebration of life and burial at Chaves Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. On line condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com

I went to New Vista school with Mike, grades 2-5, where we were childhood friends. We drifted after the school consolidated in Monett, and I haven’t seen or talked to him since high school. Nonetheless, he remains a fond childhood memory, and the description of him here reminds me of him then: a kind soul.

I was also school with Mike at New Vista through Monett High School – riding the school bus with him for over a decade, as well as attending the same church for a few years. I thought highly of him, and a few years ago we reconnected by computer for a short time. I am so sorry I didn’t know he was ill, and extremely saddened by his passing. Prayers to his family.

As one of the first students attending New Vista School, I remember Mike’s parents as being good neighbors and loving parents. It saddens me greatly to know Mike has left us for a better place. My sympathy to Beckie and Mike’s extended family, especially his in laws who accepted and loved him as one of their own.
