Basil Jenkins June 25, 1924 - June 30, 2014

Basil Jenkins, age 90 of Sparta, Missouri, passed away early Monday morning, June 30, 2014 in his home. He was born June 25, 1924 in Douglas County the son of Charley B. and Bertha (Sanders) Jenkins. On September 12, 1940 he was united in marriage to Hazel Allen who preceded him in death on June 19, 2014 after seventy-three years of marriage. This union was blessed with three children. At the age of 35, Basil began working for Journagan Construction and retired as a heavy duty road construction employee. He also dreamed of owning his own sawmill and enjoyed the logging industry all of his life. Basil was a longtime resident of Christian County and worked tirelessly for his family. In his spare time, Basil and Hazel took long rides in the country, attended church and participated in revivals. In addition to his wife, Basil was preceded in death by a son Warren James Jenkins, his parents and three brothers. Basil is survived by his son Gene Jenkins and wife Johnnye of Texas; daughter Janet Davidson and husband Ron of Sparta; sister Mary Lou Ball; three grandchildren, one step-grandchild, six great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, other caring relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be 10:00am Thursday, July 3, 2014 in Old Boston Cemetery, Oldfield, Missouri. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00pm Wednesday in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark .
