Ethel “Mae” Cox, age 88 of Ava, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014, in Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center with her loving granddaughter, Lisa by her side. Mae was born July 14, 1926, in Ava, the daughter of Ebb and Corda (Johnson) Pruiett. On August 27, 1945, she was united in marriage to Virgil Edgar Cox and to this union one daughter was born.Mae was a lifelong resident of Douglas County where she enjoyed the rural life on her farm. She faithfully attended Mt. Tabor Church and allowed God and her strong faith to guide her life. Mae was a devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandma, good friend and helpful neighbor.Mae was preceded in death by her husband Virgil on August 14, 2003, her parents and two brothers Thetis and Marvin Pruiett.She is survived by her daughter Donna Nichols and husband Tom of Ava; Grandchildren Lisa, Stephen and Jesse Johnson, Tim, Hunter and Lauren Hall, Jimmy Johnson, all of Ava, Mary Kay, Roger, Ben, Arianna, James, Isaac, Joseph, and Abbi Robinson, all of Bolivar; Jim, Chris and Barrett Nichols, Jean Nichols, Katey and Aaron Schuerger all of Springfield; two special friends Joseph and Caitlin Elliott to whom Mae referred to as Grandchildren. Mae is additionally survived by two brothers Johnny Pruiett and wife Pauline of Moline, Illinois, Clethis (Pudge) Pruiett and wife Lavon of Springfield; three sisters Goldia Dixon of Springfield, Sylvia Pinkel of Cypress, Texas and Lou Ellen Coy of Ava; two sisters-in-law Myrl Cox of Ava and Sue Pruiett of Springfield; many nieces, nephews and loving friends.Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in Mt. Tabor Church, Ava with Raymond Haden officiating.Visitation will be noon until servicetime in the church.
