Laveta Mae (Lovelady) Whitmire, age 83 of Highlandville, Missouri departed this life February 8, 2017 surrounded by her caring family. She was born June 1, 1933 in Fender, Arkansas the daughter of William and Ada Juanita (Mattox) Lovelady. Laveta was united in marriage to Joe B. Whitmire who preceded her in death. Laveta was devoted to her family and excited to join them in all their pursuits both personal or business. She enjoyed being involved in many community events in Highlandville. Laveta also loved her cats, her many flowers and her famous friend from Ireland, singer Daniel O’Donnell and looked forward to his yearly visits. Laveta owned the small church located on her Highlandville property that was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest cathedral in the world and well-known as Christ Catholic Church Prince of Peace. Laveta is survived by four children Carol Lay, Bobby Luther and wife Lisa, Kevin Whitmire and wife Carrie, Shannon Whitmire and wife Donna; nine grandchildren; three grandsons-in-law; four great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; one sister Minnie Louise Cisco; two brothers Joe Lovelady and Bobby Earl Lovelady; several nieces, nephews and other caring relatives. In addition to her husband, Laveta was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law David Lay, MD, one grandson Reily Luther, one sister Thelma Jean Donley, two brothers Charles and Billy Ray Lovelady, two sisters-in-law Janice Lovelady and Mary Sue Lovelady. The family extends their thanks for Laveta’s care. She will be missed from their daily lives but take comfort knowing she is in the arms of the angels with her family, friends and pets. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 13, 2017 in Highlandville Cemetery, located on State Highway EE.
