Mary Geneva (Tennis) Teague, age 97 of Sparta, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018. She was surrounded by her family when she went to meet her Lord and Savior. She was born April 10, 1921, in Bruner the daughter of Loach and Pearl (Braden) Tennis. On December 6, 1940 Mary was united to the love of her life Gene Francis Teague. Gene and Mary celebrated 67 years of marriage before he passed away in 2007. Mary was a teacher in the Bruner and Elkhead schools. In 1945, Mary was teaching at the Bruner School when the electric company supplied electricity for the lights to be turned on for the Christmas Pageant. Later, Gene and Mary owned and operated grocery stores in Elkhead and Sparta as well as operating a beef and dairy farm in Bruner since 1953.
Mary was baptized as a young lady at Stewarts Creek. Mary loved her family and looked forward to having them every Sunday for dinner. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, parents, daughter Brenda Weter, brothers Raymond Tennis and Ralph Tennis, sisters-in-law Joretta Tennis and Bessie Tennis, numerous other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Mary is survived by her loving family, son Randy Teague and wife Brenda; grandchildren Brooke and Dennis Martin, Brad and Kelly Teague and Cassie Patterson; seven great-grandchildren Brandon Patterson, Megan Rains and Cody, Matti Weter, Andrew and Rebecca Spencer, Madison Teague, Collin Gene Francis Teague, and Natalie Teague; one great-grandson Austin Rains; three step-grandsons Rusty Estes, Ryan Estes and Randall Estes and wife Amanda; two step great-grandchildren Reese and Ryder Estes; brother Gene Tennis; sister-in-law Sue Pellham. Funeral services will be held 2:00P.M., Sunday, April 29, 2018 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time. Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations to the Sparta School Gene and Mary Teague Scholarship Fund.
