Michael Allen Sanders, 74, of Ozark, Missouri, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 30, 2024 with his loving family by his side. Mike was born May 25, 1950, in his grandparent’s farmhouse near Sparta, weighing 12 lbs., the son of Joseph and Alice (Loveland) Sanders.
Mike graduated from Ozark high school in 1968, his love for playing basketball in high school allowed him the privilege to attend Crowder Junior college in Neosho on a basketball scholarship. After college Mike obtained his state auctioneer certification, known as Colonel Sanders, before retiring from auctioneering in 2002. Mike renewed his faith and devoted himself to God in September of 2004 when he was baptized by Ted Spencer at Sparta Church of Christ. Mike or Mickey, as most knew him, was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding and camping. He enjoyed the quiet and comfort of his home as well. Most often you could find him on the mower, relaxing in the garage, or watching a rodeo if you stopped by. He was a great storyteller and had an infectious laugh, his smile would melt your heart.
Mike is survived by his daughter Melissa Sanders (Aaron) of Nixa; son Justin Sanders and wife Tera, of Ozark; sisters Janet Dye and husband “big brother” Don, of Ozark and Judy Stokes of Sparta; six loving grandchildren, Taylar, Dylan, Baylie, Olivia, Nora, and Emma; great-grandson Stetson Lane; nieces, Michelle Rowland and Tammy Hite; nephew Shannon Dye; and bonus daughter Amy Stanton. Mike was loved by many and holds a special place in people’s hearts, he will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mercy Hospital and Barnes Hospital.
Funeral Services for Mike will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 6, 2024 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark with Ted Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery, Sparta, Missouri. Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday until service time in the funeral home. Arrangements under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
