Neva Lucille Vinson, age 97 of Ava, Missouri passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in Heart of the Ozarks. She was born August 4, 1919 near Sweden, Missouri the daughter of William Frank and Lydia “Birdie” Thurman and known as “Granny Birdie” to all her grandchildren. On June 26, 1941 she was united in marriage to Elga Vinson and this union was blessed with four children. Neva was a faithful Christian and a member of the congregational Methodist Church at Sweden. Later, she attended Star Chappel Church where her son pastored and other family members attended. Neva was a tireless worker for Carps Department Store, Sparks Department Store and a cook for 17 years at Ava Senior Citizens Center. Her homemade cobblers revealed her talent as the best cook in town and she enjoyed cooking for everyone. During her later years, she enjoyed babysitting and was soon known as Granny Neva to dozens of children. After Elga passed away, Neva was happiest with a car load of ladies headed to church services or gatherings for singing groups. After the adoption of Donna, Neva’s goal was to keep all the Clark children in contact with one another. Neva will be treasured forever and dearly missed by her family. Neva is survived by four children Gaylene Rippee and husband Johnny, Darrell Vinson and wife Jeanie, Larry Vinson and wife Karen, Donna Atchison and husband Noel; 8 grandchildren Shawn , Brian, Chrystal, Darren, Landon, Mindy, Joey and Brandon; 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 2 great-great grandchildren ; a sister Norva Strong; several nieces, nephews and other caring relatives. In addition to her husband, Neva was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Alva Thurman and two sisters Naomi Twitty and Zola Harrison. Visitation for Neva will be 10:00-11:00 A.M Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Sweden Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 in the church with, burial to follow in Ava City Cemetery.
