Pastor Darrell Mead September 23, 1949 - November 12, 2024

Date of Funeral

November 15, 2024

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Darrell Joe Mead, age 75, of Springfield, Missouri, heard the words, “Enter in, thou good and faithful servant . . . enter thou into the joy of thy Lord” as he passed from this earth while in Mercy Hospital. He was born September 23, 1949, in Norwood, Missouri to his parents, Novia and Florene Mead. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Teresa Flowers, on March 16, 1973. Together they celebrated over 51 years of marriage. Darrell graduated from Norwood High School in 1967 where his favorite subject was basketball. He then attended Southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Darrell attended the Norwood Assembly of God church from birth and felt the call to preach in his early teenage years. He fully surrendered to God’s call while attending SBC and went on to pastor his first church at the age of 19. He later enlisted in the Marine Reserves and while living in West Plains, Missouri he transferred to the Army National Guard Military Police Unit. When asked which branch of service he was in, you would always hear Marines because “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

For many years Darrell was a bivocational pastor. His favorite second job was selling Bibles at Radiant Book and Music Center where he not only sold books and Bibles, but also witnessed to and prayed with customers. After leaving Radiant, he was still called upon to answer questions about the various types and versions of the Bible. If Darrell found a little spare time, you would probably find him with a fishing pole in his hands – his favorite pastime.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Teresa; a son, Darrell James (DJ); two sisters, Donna Bruffett and husband Gary; Danna Gaskins and husband Bob; many dearly loved nieces and nephews; his good friends; his very loving and supportive church family of Chadwick First Pentecostal Church, along with his many dear Christian brothers and sisters from his previous pastorates. He is also survived by his bonus family Erick and Brandy Meier and children Isaac, Lucas, Ella and Abigal, who called Darrell Papa. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Novia and Florene Mead. His family would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming expressions of love.

Funeral service for Darrell will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 15, 2024 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Burial will follow in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Missouri. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. Friday until funeral time in the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com.

Pastor Darrell participated in the memorial services of both my dearly loved and dearly missed parents, Clarence “Red” and Cleta Allen. For that, I was much appreciative. Now, he is seeing them again on the Heavenly Shore along with many, many other friends and relatives. During his illness, I understand that Darrell said that he wanted to be a testimony. He needed not want for this because his entire life was indeed a testimony, a Christ-like example for all of us. Accompanying you, family and friends, in your grief and sending you my deepest condolences.

Darrell and Teresa were pastors at the Sparta Assembly of God when my wife Kathy and I were young christians serving with youth department. Darrell was wise beyond his years even at that time and treated us like gold. I so appreciate his contributions in our lives. We are sorry we will not be able to attend the services but look forward to seeing him on the other side.
