Richard Rose Jr., age 79, of Sparta, MO, died of natural causes on the evening of August 22, 2023. Son of Mary and Richard Rose Sr., Richard was born in Salina, Kansas on December 14, 1943.
Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army and served overseas as a truck driver for two years. He later went to trade school and became a machinist, a career path that led to plastic injection mold making. He later returned to long-haul truck driving in the latter half of his career. He was a devoted father, coaching little league teams, becoming Scout Master, and attending all the orchestra concerts, even the painful, early ones. Richard gave his son the gift of believing he could do whatever he set his mind to, and when that path included a college education, Richard stepped up to help provide that opportunity. Richard was outgoing, charismatic, hilarious, and had no trouble making friends throughout his life. His quick wit and playful spirit made him a joy to be around. His hobbies included golfing, woodworking, hunting, fishing, sport clay shooting, and riding motorcycles.
Richard Jr was preceded in death by parents Richard Sr. and Mary Rose; stepdaughter Debra Crawford.
Richard is survived by his wife Mary Rose; son Richard Rose III and wife Catherine; step kids Frances Crawford, John Crawford and wife Taleesha; sisters Mary Lou Dillman and husband Robert, Carolyn Lerhdal and husband George; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Memorial funeral services will be 8:30 A.M. Friday, September 15, 2023 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark with Pastor Duane Smith officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at 10:00 A.M. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri. Visitation will be Friday 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.
