Tennie Verlene Lakey, age 80 of Sparta, Missouri, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 10, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born June 14, 1943, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri to Raymond and Tennie (McCormack) Wiles. On August 28, 1959, Verlene was united in marriage to Don Lakey- the love of her life.  In August they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Verlene was a longtime Christian County resident who enjoyed raising her family in Chadwick, Missouri, before moving to Sparta, Missouri in the early ‘90’s. She was a dedicated employee at Hagale Industries and Fasco, until her retirement. Her life revolved around her kids and grandchildren. Verlene enjoyed the many fun activities they experienced. She organized camping trips on Swan Creek, outdoor activities, mushroom hunting, and invited friends and neighbors to her front porch for friendship and conversations. Sewing was a gifted talent for Verlene and she was a well-known seamstress. She was a faithful Christian and was saved at a very young age. Her church involvement continued as she and Don were very active members at Sparta Assembly of God. Verlene will be sadly missed but her loving memory will live on in the hearts of her wonderful family.

Verlene is survived by her loving husband Don; daughter Sarah Ingram of Ozark; five grandchildren Jamie Melton (Sarah) of Highlandville, Caleb Applegate (Kaitlin) of Dillingham, Alaska; Jennifer Hogan (Marty) of Fordland; Tyrell Ingram of Springfield, and Colton Melton of Highlandville ; five great-grandchildren Blake, Olivia, Bailee, Ridge, and Gatlin; several nieces, nephews and other caring relatives and friends.

Verlene was preceded in death by her parents,  a daughter Lesha Lakey, a grandson Jeremiah Payne, three brothers, and two sisters.

Graveside funeral services for Verlene will be 11:30 A.M. Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Weaver Cemetery, under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark, Missouri. Online condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com
