Donald Fitzgerald August 25, 1941 - June 30, 2022

Donald Lee Fitzgerald, age 80 of Sparta, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022, in his home. He was born August 25, 1941, in Douglas County, the son of Merman and Elsie (Adams) Fitzgerald. In November of 1965, Donald was united in marriage to the love of his life, Betty Kay (Sowards) Fitzgerald. Together they celebrated 45 years of marriage before Betty passed away January 4, 2015.

Donald was a longtime Christian County resident and a hardworking man. He began his working career at Springfield Mill and Lumber. Then later, he worked for the Christian County Road District for 20 years, followed by his employment with Ozark Special Road District for 15 years and eventually retired. After retirement, Donald enjoyed the farm life, always caring for his cows and was especially fond of his Brahman bull, Clyde. His love for animals was strong and he never let his wild turkeys or deer go hungry. Donald was also a family man and enjoyed family gatherings. Donald will be sadly missed but his loving memory will live on forever in the hearts of his wonderful family and friends.

Donald is survived by his daughter Deborah McHaffie and husband Terry; grandson Cody Lee McHaffie and other caring relatives. In addition to Betty, Donald was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and an infant sister.

Graveside funeral services will be 12:30 P.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in Sparta Cemetery with Bally Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon in the funeral home.
