Douglas B. Holt, age 64 of Sparta, Missouri, passed away at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Cox South Hospital, Springfield. He was born December 9, 1949 the son of Addison and Matel (Davis) Holt. On November 16, 1974 he was united in marriage to Sheila Friend. Doug was a longtime Christian County resident and retired construction worker. He was well-known in the community and looked forward to family gatherings and reunions. He was an exceptionally proud and devoted grandfather and always cherished the fun times with his grandchildren. Doug also enjoyed fishing, attending auctions and visiting with his friends. Doug never met a stranger and was gifted with an outgoing personality. Doug is survived by his wife Sheila; one son Scott and wife Bobbie; three grandchildren Lane, Baylinn and Nakota; one brother Raymond Hampton and wife Peggy; several nieces, nephews, other caring relatives and several friends. Doug was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rodger Lee Hampton. Graveside funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 31, 2014 in Ava City Cemetery, Ava, Missouri under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 Thursday in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. On line condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfuneral.com

    Sending my condolences and prayers to all of you. I know how hard it is to loose the ones we love the most. Doug always had a smile and a story to share with everyone he knew and met and I know he will be missed dearly by all.

    I am so glad that I met you and your family. I loved the stories you told me about my family I never met. Finding out that we were distinct cousins was an honor. We will meet again someday and all our families will be together.

    I’ve known Doug basically all my life. I reconnected with him while I was pastoring in Ozark. He would call me when he got to thinking about something in the Bible. He was a pretty deep thinker and made me think a lot about the questions he would ask. I was honored to preside over Scott’s wedding but since I moved to the Kansas City area had lost touch with the family. I knew that Doug had been in pain for many years so he’s free from that now. Prayers for the family.

    Knowing Doug for several years and knowing how he loved the Lord was so very precious, how he expressed it to me in our chats. Thinking of Doug’s Family and pray for God’s comfort love for each one of them, I know it is hard to have a loved one pass, but the Eternal Heavens are our reward, knowing we will join them again some day with no illness’ there.     So sorry to hear about Doug. As the manager of a local business for years I had the privilege of seeing Doug quite often.I appreciated his business, enjoyed talking with him about Ava, and greatly respected him. He was a good person. My sympathy to his family

    Sheila and Scotty, I think of you guys so often and am so sorry to hear about Doug.We can take comfort in knowing that he’s no longer suffering and in a better place. I have so many memories of us all and it doesn’t seem like it was that long ago but time does carry on as do we. May you all find strength and comfort in knowing we will all be together again.
