George Burns May 7, 1943 - December 25, 2021

George Allen Burns, age 78, of Sparta, Missouri, passed away in Cox South Hospital, Springfield and went to be with our Lord Saturday, December 25, 2021. He was born May 7, 1943 in California the son of George and Leotta (Davis) Burns. On May 8, 1992, George was united in marriage to Joyce Myers.

George served three years in the United States Navy and 16 years in the Army National Guard before retiring in 1989. He also worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an electronic technician. When he was not serving his country, George could be found at the nearest airport surrounded by airplanes. He was an avid pilot and an A&P mechanic. George loved to fly and was the go-to mechanic for so many aviators. When he was not taking to the skies, George could be found taking photographs at any family event or watching Western films. He also enjoyed the thrill of searching for gold and fishing in Alaska.

George is survived by his wife Joyce; daughter Melissa Stewart and husband Steve; son Randy Burns and wife Angie; two stepdaughters Terri Pasiewicz and husband Shannon and Kelly Moon; his siblings Linda Orrell and husband Richard, Robert Burns and wife Carol, and James Burns and wife Ginger. He also leaves behind his five grandchildren: Conner, Katie, Ashley, Samantha, and Derek; two great-grandchildren Summer and Lindsey. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Leotta Burns and his grandson Zachary.

We lost a good, honest man, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed, but Heaven is enriched by his arrival.

The Warriors’ Watch Riders extend our condolences for this true American Hero and are honored to work along side Barnes Family Funeral Home and the family to provide a motorcycle escort and stand a flag line for Mr Burns who selfishly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He served so we could all be free..
