Helen Carnall, age 96 and a longtime Sparta resident, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016 in Ozark Riverview Manor. She was born January 5, 1920 in Turners, Missouri to Maude and Elmer Allen. Helen attended Logan Grade School, Rogersville High School and two years at Southwest Missouri State Teachers’ College, presently known as MSU. During WWII, Helen was employed at several positions in Springfield including O’Reilly General Hospital, where she worked as a clerk. During high school, Helen met her sweetheart Tom Carnall and several years later they were united in marriage in 1941. After Tom returned from WWII they made Sparta their longtime home. Helen was also employed as a postal clerk for the Sparta Post Office and retired after 31 years of service. On December 23, 2012, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-one years Tom, her parents, three brothers Homer, Bert and Tom Allen, one sister Gladys Pursley and son-in-law Ben Rozell. Helen is lovingly survived by one daughter Jackie Rozell of Branson; one sister Hazel Lawson of Sparta; two granddaughters Kim Craven and husband Lester of Seattle WA and Marnie Moore and husband Mark of Charlotte, NC; five great-grandchildren Benjamin, Grady, Cooper and Rylee Moore and Christian Witkop. The family wishes to thank Ozark Riverview Manor for the many years of devoted care given to Helen and Tom during their stay at the facility. Memorial contributions are suggested to Fair Haven Children’s Home 3132 N. Fair Haven Loop Strafford, MO 65757. Funeral services for Helen will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in Sparta Church of Christ with Ted Spencer officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until service time in the church. Miss Helen will be laid to rest beside her husband Tom in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Arrangements under the care of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
