James (Jim) Gillis Whitley, age 72 of Chadwick, died February 26, 2018. He was born October 23, 1945 in Houston Texas, the son of Gillis and Grace Whitley.On February 14, 1970 he was united in marriage to his wife, Gail Whitley. They shared 44 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in September of 2014. Jim most enjoyed gardening, barbecuing, antiquing, traveling, football and spending time with his family. Jim was a loving father to Amy Coltrane and her husband Rick of St. Louis and Sara Rozell and her husband Brad of Chadwick MO. Jim was a devoted “Bapa” to grandchildren; Brennan Coltrane (Jillyan Jackson), Whitley Coltrane, Landon Rozell, Kailyn Rozell and Hayden Rozell which he spent countless hours babysitting when they were young, teaching them all about snakes, hunting, fishing, watching football and attending their sporting events. Other survivors include; sister Janelle Norman of Austin TX, brother Jerry Whitley (Lisa) of Saxtons River VT, brother-in-law Chuck Williams (Debbie Stevens) of Huntington Beach CA, brother-in-law Mike Williams and devoted friend Sue Brilhart, both of Chadwick MO. A private memorial service will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield Missouri for family. In lieu of flowers, donations to Shriners Hospital for Children or the charity of your choice are appreciated. Services under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.     Gail was in our book club and I will never forget her. She was the kindest person I ever met. I think of her often and every time I pass her street. I am so sorry to hear about Jim. Best wishes to your family.

    Amy, Sara and families, I’m sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. I didn’t know him well but, of course, Gail was a very important part of my life for many years. We still miss her at Women at the Well. What a wonderful legacy Jim and Gail have left!
