Barnes Family Funerals - Karen M. Johanson

Karen Mae Johanson, age 72 of Sparta, Missouri passed Monday, April 4, 2016.She was born June 4, 1943 in Wayne, Nebraska to Marvin and Helen (Dorman) Johanson. Karen was smart and capable and creative, but most of all, she loved and was loved. She loved her family and throughout her life, her family expanded. She saw other people, not as strangers, but as friends. She had a gift for sharing herself with those around her. When she told a story, it was as if you could see through her eyes and feel what she felt. Karen loved horses and achieved her lifelong ambition of living on a farm surrounded by her horses and pets too numerous to count. Karen is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul Glynn; her children Katie Kakolewski, Rebecca Denton, Richard Schuldt, Daniel Kakolewski, Eric Schuldt, Emily Kakolewski and Annie Chambers; her grandchildren Taylor, Rose, Bailey, Owen, Madison, Parker and Christian; her siblings Marlene Shaw, Roger Johanson and Leah Johanson-Blinks. Memorial funeral services for Karen will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Visitation will be Saturday 12:30 pm until service time in the funeral home. Donations may be made to Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue, 23809 E. Avenue J., Lancaster, CA 93535. Online condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com .

I will be representing my son Ehren Ekhause who is currently in the Bronx doing his residency. Ehren worked at the clinic for a summer session in for one of his requirements while in Medical School. My son loved Paul and adored Karen (she was a real charmer and so is my son…they were a real team). Paul, my son will be reaching you again. The one time I was fortunate to meet Paul and Karen it was obivious to me that they were meant for one another. She put me at ease immediately as far as conversations and laughters went. She will be missed.

A shy young medical student walks into a Sparta medical clinic, where he will spend the next month working closely with this family medicine practice. He was apprehensive, concerned about fitting in and performing at his best in order to get that good grade. He had no expectation of making friends, rather working hard and getting this month of studies behind him. He was already looking forward to getting back to the big city. He walked through the clinic doors and shook hands with Dr Glynn and Karen, little did he know that by the end of the month he would be hugging them with tears in his eyes, wondering when the next time he would see his family in the big town of Sparta.

Karen and Paul were a perfect combo, balancing each other out as if dancing on a see-saw, even with some hip problems. And what bounded them both together was their unending kindness, their gentle ways of nurturing. Yes, perhaps Karen’s nurturing was a bit more voluble then Paul’s, the two of them were a force of healing.

My body aches knowing that our loved one has passed, yet my tears are warm and full of life, a smile in my soul, knowing the deeply penetrating effect Karen has had on my life and the lives of so many. She may physically no longer be in touch but her boundless nature will continue on. Those she has effected, those she shared her light with, are forever altered. And for all those that come into contact with these altered souls, they too will be touched by the essence of Karen.

To the family of Karen, I wish you find strength in the solidarity of family which Karen worked so hard, yet effortlessly to create.
To Karen, I wish we could have had our sleep over at your dream home and ate some of the cans of olives that Paul overstocked. I hope the next time I’m on a horse or in a silent place I hear your voice. Thank you for your spirit.
To Paul, I wish I could see you know, just to lock eyes for a moment, just so I could share with you what you and Karen shared with me from the very first day I walked into your clinic and even now, during a time of great loss and sorrow, you still thought of me and shared the love you and Karen so gracefully hold. Never forget that each time you reach for friends and family, Karen lives on in them and in you. I love y

    Dear Paul and family,
I wanted to offer my condolences for the loss of our beloved wife. I wanted to share some delightful scriptures from the bible. I like to share the thought of the resurrection hope with all those I meet. One example of the resurrection was of Jesus friend Lazarus, bible book of John whole chapter 11. Another example was Jesus conversation with the repented evil doer that he would be in Paradise. Luke 23:43. Jesus mentioned a future paradise, where these prophecies promise wonderful conditions, such as all the animals dwelling together in peace. Isaiah 11:6-9 is a prophecy that has never been fulfill yet, but delights us to think about it. Hopefully this will comfort your hearts. For more information http://www.jw.org

My deepest sympathy for the friends and family for your loss of this wonderful soul. Karen was such a sweet person, always good for a pat on the back, hug, and laugh. Her love, strength, caring and smile was always there to greet us when my babies were little. My oldest son could care less if I was around when he went in for his shots as long as he had Karen he was fine. My son broke his leg at 2 yrs. Old, this crying momma called and Dr. GLynn and Karen met me at the back door of the clinic before they opened and took care of him, I will never forget her hugs that day to make me feel better. Her love for her family, friends, patients, animals etc. Was always felt around her. Prayers for you all.
