Lonnie Roy Swearengin, age 77 of Sparta, Missouri passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 26, 1942 in Douglas County the son of Robert “Jack” and Alice (Yates) Swearengin. Lonnie graduated from Ash Grove High School.
On December 14, 1963, he was united in marriage to Kay (McHaffie) and they enjoyed over 50 years together. For 30 years, Lonnie was a devoted bus driver for Sparta School District and ran a successful Marine repair business from his residence. He also held positions with Dayco Rubber, O’Reilly Automotive and was a member of Sparta Masonic Lodge #296 A.F.&A.M. Hunting, fishing and sports were also a big part of his life. Lonnie had a great love for his family and friends and will be sadly missed but his memory will live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones.
Lonnie is survived by his loving wife Kay; his daughter Teresa Coffer and husband Dewayne; son Travis Swearengin and wife Christy; two granddaughters Dalis Yoakum and husband Chantry, Torie Sconce and husband Ryan; special great-grand-babies Rhett and Braelynn Sconce; a brother JR Swearengin and two sisters Ilee Grimes and Pauline Maggard and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Bob Swearengin; one sister Josephine Swearengin; three half- sisters Mildred Greene, Dorothy Pogue and Ada Swearengin.
Funeral services for Lonnie will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 22, 2019 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark with Pastor Dale Roller officiating. Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior and begin at 10:00 A.M until service time. Honoring Lonnie’s request the casket will be closed at all times.
