Loryn Kay House, age 21, of Ozark, MO became a beautiful angel in Heaven on May 13, 2013 after a tragic choking accident. She had 21 years of happiness and lived life to the fullest, always finding the positive side in every situation. She never met a stranger, and once you met Loryn, you had a friend for life. She had a unique way of making everyone she met feel important and loved, never judging, never speaking a cross word, always kind-hearted.Loryn was a graduate of the Oklahoma School for the Blind where she enjoyed every day she attended. She was involved in cheerleading and band, among other activities. One of her favorite activities was attending school dances. She loved music-any music-and would often learn the words to songs after only hearing them a few times. She had many friends there, students as well as teachers and staff, who always held a special place in Loryn’s heart.In a true testament to her unwavering spirit and tremendous heart, Loryn wanted to be an organ donor. Her organs will be used to help other people have improved and prolonged lives. Ironically and perhaps the most special, will be that her eyes will give the gift of sight to someone. As her parents, we hope that person will see the world as Loryn did—full of happiness and kindness and love.Loryn was a true blessing and we will miss her more than words can express. But we know that she is a special angel who will always be with us, and who is looking down on us each day.Loryn is survived by her parents, Ray and Jayna House of Ozark, and her brother, Josh, and his wife, Melissa, of Lawrence, Kansas; grandparents, Doug and Lori House, of Ozark; her life-long friend, Brittany Gipson of Pennsylvania; and a host of extended family and friends. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Loryn’s memory to the Oklahoma School for the Blind-Band Fund or Needy Children’s Fund, 3300 Gibson Street, Muskogee, OK 74403.Celebration of life memorial services were held 3:00 pm, Thursday, May 16, 2013 in Selmore Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Hall officiating. JoAnn called me this morning and told me of Loryn’s passing into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Sunday. Even though we’re family, I’m sorry to say that I didn’t get to know Loryn personally. Everything I’ve ever heard about her through your grandmother & grandpa (“Aunt Tootsie and Uncle Dean” to me!) let me know how deeply she was loved, and that she returned that magnificent love to all of you. As I still grieve over the loss of my mother, Marie, on April 10th, I will also remember to lift up your whole family in prayer. I know the comfort of the Holy Spirit will be your strength. I heard this today, and hope it might comfort you, also: “Divine Power + Divine Compassion = Everything you need.”

I had the experience of being Loryn’s physical education and SET teacher for many years. SET stands for student enrichment time, a block of 20 minutes every morning with a small group of students to visit and address any students concerns. I found myself becoming enriched by Loryn more and more every year she attended OSB. Each morning, Loryn would share the important details of her mornings and her life. She always had a piece of jewelry to show that matched her outfits beautifully. She liked to share her breakfast menu and let me know of her healthy diet. Through Loryn, I learned all about the “Twilight” series with never having seen a movie or reading a book. She was an expert! All of these conversations would take place while bouncing a big blue hop ball. She must have worn through half a dozen of the HOP 66 models.
Our morning visits were not just focused on her. On Mondays, she wanted to know how many miles I might have jogged over the weekend. Many a Saturday, she was my inspiration to hit the road. I knew she would ask on Monday, “How was your jog, Mrs. Allen?� She also loved to share the stories of her pets and farm animals. Loryn surprised me one day with the best gift a teacher could receive, she named one of her billy goats after me!
Loryn had a great sense of humor. We would have silly conversations about her cousin, Little House who lived on the Prairie, and when he might come to visit. Some mornings we would play bocce and she would say, Don’t cry when I beat you, Mrs. Allen. Loryn was known for many things at OSB; sonic bag champ of the school, best left handed bowler, her determination to learn braille, the amazing math facts she could figure out in her head and her love of family.
I am happy to have known you Loryn. I know I won’t forget you.

I’m so sorry to hear about Loryn . She has always been in my thoughts threw the years, sense your family moved from Stillwater. We often tell new workers about the things we learned by having her in our class. She taught me many different things about life and she was just a young girl at that time. Even though she couldn’t see everything she could hear everything, and was a happy girl. Sorry for your loss, I’m sure she is dancing in heaven.
