Alta Maxine Mettler, age 91 of Highlandville, passed away in her home, Friday, March 25, 2011. She was born October 2, 1919, the daughter of Ben and Meda (Turner) Thomas. She was united in marriage to Emmett Mettler, who preceded her in death in 2005. Maxine fondly known as “Mickey” to her family and friends was a longtime resident of the Highlandville community. She attended Highlandville Assembly of God Church and was a Charter Member. Maxine was a wonderful cook and famous for good hamburgers and chili. Her life revolved around her family and she assumed the title of “Greatest Mom and Grandmother that ever was.” Her legacy of family devotion will remain as an ever present memory in the hearts of her family members. In addition to her husband, Maxine was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter Francis Kyker, grandson Mark Essick and two sisters. She is survived by her three sons, Dickie Essick and wife Carla, Frank Essick, Bill Essick and wife Debbie all of Highlandville; a sister Billie Wingo; ten grandchildren; one great and one great-great grandchild, several good neighbors and friends. Graveside funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2011, in Spokane Cemetery with Pastor Gary Phipps officiating. Services under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
