Nelrose Marie Mitchell September 25, 1929 - June 5, 2014

Barnes Family Funerals - Nelrose Marie Mitchell

Nelrose Marie Mitchell, age 84 of Nixa, departed this life to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Christian Healthcare, in Republic. She was born September 25, 1929 in Knox County, Indiana, the oldest daughter of Lisker Vaughn Wagoner and Anna Louise (Devers) Wagoner. Nelrose was a longtime resident of Springfield and Nixa, Missouri for most of her adult life. Nelrose was a 1947 graduate of Decker High School and attended God’s Bible School and College in Ohio. She served as a missionary with “GIs of the Cross” crusade spreading the gospel across the states. She retired from GE in Springfield in 1992 after 21 years of service. She enjoyed reading, growing flowers, watching golf and bird watching. As many women of her generation she had to go to work but she always made time to take her children to ball games and school functions. Nelrose enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren up until her health started failing and always had a special treat for them when they came to visit. She enjoyed taking her children on car trips, even if it was just a Sunday drive, and always did the big summer vacation to visit family or see different parts of the country. She was a gifted seamstress making Barbie doll clothes for her daughters, bridesmaid dresses and all of the female costumes for a Nixa High School play. She passed on her love of knitting, crocheting and embroidery to her daughters. She served as a homeroom mother at McGregor Elementary and held several offices within the PTA organization. Nelrose was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Emil, Charles and Ralph and two sisters Marilyn and Martha. She is survived by her son, Lynn L Mitchell, Jr and Sandy of Nixa; four daughters, Melinda Ann Welch and Mark of Rogersville, Pamela Sue Sawyers and Tom of Republic, Lisa Kay Ikerd and Jeff of Conway and Rose Ellen Bottoms and Roger of Marionville; six brothers, Dale, Raymond, Donald, Marvin, Junior and Fred, and two sisters, Joan and Betty Ruth; six grandchildren Amanda, Christina, Kari, Kyle, Josh and Mitchel; and six great-grandchildren Gavin, Taylor, DJ, Ethan, Sienna and Angel. She also is survived by a number of caring nieces, nephews, step-children and a dear friend Edna. The family would also like to thank Megan McCorcle for her caring assistance to Nelrose. Funeral services for Nelrose will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 in Barnes Family Funeral with Pastor Joe Wolven officiating. Burial will follow in Eisenhour Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday in the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com.
