Ret. Staff Sergeant Carl Hammon, age 76 of Ozark, Missouri, passed away in Columbia at his daughters home on Sunday, July 6, 2014. He was born October 29, 1937 in Licking, Missouri the son of Norville and Ina (Bailey) Hammon. On December 2, 1961 he was united in marriage to Nona May Hamby who preceded him in death February 22, 2011. Carl was a longtime military veteran who began his career with the United States Navy, advanced to the United States Air Force and proudly retired from the United States Army with the rank Staff Sergeant. Carl also received numerous awards and medals for his dedicated service to his country. After retirement Carl enjoyed spending time with his wife, Nona and traveling together in their RV and reading Western novels. In addition to his wife, Carl was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.Carl is survived by a daughter Carla Johnson and husband Vern; a son Sergeant First Class Michael Hammon and fiancé Andrea Pena; a grandson Levi Hammon and wife Sandy; a great-grandson Benjamin Hammon; a brother Paul Hammon and wife Gayle; three sisters JoAnn Aryers and husband Jr., Carol Smith and husband Larry, Gloria Elvers and husband John; several other caring relatives and many friends.Graveside memorial services will be 10:00am. Friday, July 11,2014 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.     I was very sad to hear of Carl’s passing. What a wonderful man! Knowing he is with his beautiful wife, Nona again is very heartwarming. I miss them both.
