Richard “Dick” Baker September 29, 1933 - March 29, 2017

Barnes Family Funerals - Richard "Dick" Baker

Richard Dean Baker, age 83 of Ozark, Missouri departed this life, Wednesday, March 29, 2017, with his two sons, Rick and Barry by his side at Cox South Hospital. He was born September 29, 1933, in Picher, Oklahoma, the son of Cliff and Florence Baker. In 1951, Richard graduated from Picher High School. After returning from Germany, where he served with the United States Army 8th armored division, he was united in marriage, March 20, 1954, to Phyllis Jean Holden at the First Methodist Church of Quapaw, Oklahoma. On January 24, 2012, at the age of 76, Phyllis preceded Richard in death. After 18 dedicated years, Richard retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber of St.Louis and opened his own commercial refrigeration and appliance business in Ozark. Known for his giving heart, Richard was often known to “forget” to bill the elderly and disadvantaged. In 1984, he sold the business to retire and just fish. However, a year later he was employed with Ozark Riverview Manor as HVAC and Maintenance Director. Richard had a flair for all things mechanical. Four years later, he retired for good and began caring for Phyllis after her heart attack. They enjoyed traveling and camping in their 5th wheel for many good years. Richard had an unbelievable dedication and love for his parents, wife, sons and their families and gave Phyllis tender loving care during her many illnesses. Richard was mostly known for his big heart and will be dearly missed. In addition to his wife, Richard was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Aaron Todd Baker and great-granddaughter Accalia Emaline Baker. Richard is survived by his sons Rick Baker and wife Susie of Harrison, AR; Barry Baker of Ozark; five grandchildren Clifton, Ricky, Mark, Brian and Brianna Baker, other relatives and several caring friends. Celebration of life services will be 12:30 P.M.Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time in the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at 2:00P.M. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. On line condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com
