Robert Mayes October 13, 1938 - March 23, 2025

Date of Funeral

April 1, 2025

Robert Lee Mayes, 86, of Ozark, passed away on March 23, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Robert Lee Mayes lived a life filled with laughter, hard work, and devotion to his family. Born on October 13, 1938, in Springfield, Missouri, he proudly served his country as a Private in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963, including a deployment to Germany during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his military service, he built a career as a dedicated route salesman, retiring from Tri-State after many years of hard work.

Robert was the kind of person who never missed a chance to make someone laugh – whether it was with a perfectly timed joke, an innocent prank, or his signature grin that let you know he was up to something. A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, he never missed an opportunity to watch a game. He found joy in working in his yard, tinkering around the house, and most of all spending time with his beloved family.
Robert was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud Papa, whose greatest joy was the time spent with those he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kay Mayes, daughter Kellie Sansom and husband Martin; son Kevin Mayes and wife Stephanie; grandkids Hallie Mayes, Katie (Mayes) Johnston, Emma Sansom, Ashlie Mayes and Evan Sansom; and his sister Carol (Mayes) Sharp. His presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.

Graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 1, 2025 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Online condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com.
