Sammie Eugene Lawrence, age 75 of Oldfield, Missouri, passed away Thursday January 2, 2014 in his home. He was born April 8, 1938 at Keltner and grew up in the Mound community where he enjoyed the farm and rural living. Sam graduated from Ava High School and The Basic Institute of Technology in St. Louis. On January 1, 1961 Sam was united in marriage to Eva Friend and this union was blessed with two sons. He also served his country aboard the USS General J.C. Breckinridge as a member of the United States Navy and served at two Naval Stations as a member of the 305 attack squadron. Sam was employed at ITT Continental Bakery and later retired from General Electric. Sam was a member of the Dogwood Nazarene Church and enjoyed attending community gospel singings. He also was a member of the neighborhood Four Wheeler Club and a member of the Southwest Missouri Equine Driving Association. Sam enjoyed trail rides with his neighbors and training horses and mules. Sam was preceded in death by his mother Gertrude (Melton) Lawrence, two sisters Ada and Vada and two brothers Richard and Denzil.Sam is survived by his wife Eva, two sons Warren Lawrence and wife Myra of Baconton, GA and Van Lawrence and wife Ruthann of Montague, MI; five grandchildren Bobbi Garcia and husband Frank, Camelle Vernon and husband Randy, Samuel Lawrence and wife Brittany, Tracy Lawrence, and Hanna Lawrence; four great-grandsons Brent and Colin Vernon and Bo and Jax Garcia; many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends.Funeral services will be 12:30 P.M. Thursday January 9, 2014 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark with Pastor Michael Peebles, Bob Huskey and Jerry Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial with full military honors will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO.Memorials are suggested to The American Cancer Society, Wounded Warriors or donors charity choice.     Sammie was the kindest man I knew. He loved to tell stories, and listening to him you could hear that he loved his God, his family and his farm! He had the best laugh ever and showed the most faith and grace I’ve seen. Thinking of you Eva and praying Gods comfort for you and the kids!

    I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK SAMMY FOR BEING PART OF OUR LIVES,BEING A WONDERFUL UNCLE AND ALWAYS BEING THERE IF SOMEONE NEEDED YOU.
