Thomas Wayne Carnall, age 95, Ozark, MO, formerly of Sparta passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 in Ozark Riverview Manor. Tom was born in Mansfield, MO. On February 9, 1941 he married Helen Allen, his loving wife of 71 years and this union was blessed with one daughter, Jackie Rozell of Branson, MO. Tom grew up during the depression in Mansfield and after graduation from high school, and few other jobs, he served his country in the United States Army under General Patton during World War II. Tom and Helen moved to Sparta in 1946 and he worked as a mechanic in his brother’s garage before working for Kraft Foods in Springfield. Tom retired in the early 1980s after 27 years as a Maintenance Supervisor for Kraft. He then was drafted into filling a vacancy for Mayor of Sparta, MO. which he held for 17 consecutive years. As Mayor he helped with the construction of the city’s sewer system and other projects and never accepted a paycheck for his contributions. He was a long time member of Sparta Church of Christ. Tom is survived by his wife, daughter, two granddaughters Kim Craven and husband Lester of Seattle, WA, Marnie Moore and husband Mark of Charlotte, NC; five great-grandchildren Benjamin, Grady, Cooper and Rylee Moore and Christian Witkop. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and son-in-law Ben Rozell Funeral services for Tom were held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 in Sparta Church of Christ with Ted Spencer officating. Burial with full military honors followed in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation was held 10:00 a.m. to service time in the church. Arrangements under the care and direction of Banes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
