Barnes Family Funerals - William Gideon

William C. “Bill” Gideon, age 79 of Highlandville, MO passed away in the early hours of July 26, 2017 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO following a short battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. He was born February 25, 1938 in Taney County, MO, the son of Lester & Charlotte (Wilson) Gideon. On March 30, 1968, he was united in marriage to Linda Payne. Bill worked as a mechanic for most of his life. After his retirement, he was still tinkering with everything from tractors to chainsaws, from Buicks to bulldozers. Seemed like there was always something needing fixed (or something he had taken apart that needed put back together). When he wasn’t working on a project, he loved to fish, and was a member of Finley River Bass Club for several years. Bill was a good hearted man who would lend a hand to anyone. His rough exterior was just a cover for the big ole teddy bear inside, especially when it came to his grandkids. Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda; daughters Charlotte Good, Cindy Hogshooter and husband Bob; one son Tim Gideon; two step-daughters Marleen Taylor and Donna Scroggins; grandchildren Jarrod, Amanda, Brett, Cody, Brandon, Kacey, Tucker, Leona, Billy and Bobby; nine great-grandchildren including Michael & Lylli of the home; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters Violet Gann, Rosemary Thornton and Stella Jussel and husband Leroy; one brother Les Gideon; a host of nieces & nephews & extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Gideon; step-son Billy Jones; brother-in-law Leroy Gann, first wife Leona and best fishing buddy and friend, Fred Getman. Visitation will be 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 29, 2017 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Burial will follow at Highlandville Cemetery, Highlandville, MO. I spent my younger years trying to get Grandpa to take me fishing. Finally after joining the Air Force I would come visit and he and I would go fishing. I remember one time we went and we couldn’t cast and not catch a fish. My hand was sore for days from setting the hook so much. After about 4 1/2 hours of fish after fish he looks up and says “what do you say I take you to my honey holes!” I will definitely miss those fishing trips but most of all the big softie he turned into when it came to my daughters. I’ll never forget the way he’s face lite up the first time he saw Anujin and Amina. Amina till this day will say “Dada, lets go see Pa Willy.” It tears my heart a part that we can’t see you now.
I always turn to this in a hard time it’s the best quote to explain how the souls of those past carry on.

“How can the dead be truly dead when they still live in the souls of those who are left behind? “

Condolences to all the family. He was a special man. I remember when he bought us dolls right after mom died. I had that doll till it literally fell apart. I loved whenever I got to spend the night and all of us kids played games till dark. Linda also is so special a loving wife and mother. Just know you’re in my thoughts and I have always thought of dad and all of my family thru out these years. He was gruff, but always was proud to claim me as his own. That meant a lot to me. Love all of you.

My sincere sympathies to Linda and the entire family. I will miss my occasional calls from him just to check on Gene and I. A first cousin and good friend. But all I can think of is now he is pain free and he is reminiscing with family and friends in heaven. Although His time on earth has ended, his memories will always be with us. For the family, my thoughts and prayers are for peace, comfort, and strength during this time. Love you all.
