William McConnell, age 67 of Highlandville, Missouri passed away in his home, Wednesday morning, July 1, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born July 27, 1947 the son of William V. and Eula (Fite) McConnell at West Plains, Missouri. Bill began his forty year law enforcement career as a member of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. In 1984, Bill joined the Ozark Police Department as a lieutenant and worked his way through the ranks to become Ozark Chief of Police. In 1999, Bill joined the Cassville police department and served as Cassville Chief of Police until his retirement. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a military veteran. Bill was an avid outdoorsman with interests in fishing, coon hunting, trapping season and especially enjoyed the challenge of team roping. Bill was a gentleman and well-known for his caring personality. Bill is survived by his special friend, Dianna Brooks; his father William V. McConnell; four children Brandon McConnell, Shane McConnell and wife Kim, Matt Hoover and Summer Cullen; two step-sons Jamie and Jason Browne; two sisters Tracy McManana and husband Tom, Cathy Northrup and husband Larry, many fellow officers and other caring relatives. Bill was preceded in death by his mother. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening, July 6, 2015 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark with memorial services beginning at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com.

    Bill was a fine man and a good friend to me. He will be missed by so many. Always happy and he loved to fish and go to garage sales. May God hold all of you close at this time. He will be missed for sure but is fishing and hunting in Heaven!

    My prayers are w ith the family. I am in shock that Bill is gone. I will miss our phone converstaions, he was a wonderful brother.
    My regrets that I wasn’t able to attend the service.

    Bill is a very good man.He made mom happy for the last six years.We all miss him very much.I’m glad I got to see him one last time and I will forever remember him cuz he is one of the greatest people I have ever known.

    Bill was a lieutenant at Greene county when I became a reserve in 1980. He was a great cop. He was fun to work with. He had a nack for finding criminals. He was funny caring and professional. He was one of the favorites among the reserve deputies.
