Carl Ronald Hurley, age 86 of Springfield, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 in his home. He was born December 15, 1930 in Springfield the son of Charles C. and Lydia (Wallace) Hurley. On March 14, 1992 he was united in marriage to Opal Long. After proudly serving his country for seven years as a United States Army medic paratrooper and a member of the Naval Reserves, Ron was honorably discharged. He was a dedicated employee and production foreman at Bendix Corporation of Kansas City and Debco Management as a property manager in the Springfield area for 17 years. However, Ron’s real passion in life was serving as commissioner for the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of America for the past 48 years and earning every award and recognition available to leaders. He was also a member of the Honorary Scouting Organization Mic-O-Say in Kansas City Council and the Tribe of Lone Bear in Ozark, rising to the position of Sagamore Big Drifting Eagle. Additionally, he received training as a Red Cross certified instructor in first aid, water safety and canoeing. Ron attended every summer camp until two years ago and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing trips with all of his grandchildren. Ron is lovingly survived by his wife Opal; daughter Rebecca Hurley, three sons Robert Hurley and wife Debbie, Philip Long and wife Heather, Ronnie Long and wife Cindi; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister Louanna Wasson and husband Roger; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Ron loved his large blended family. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Roberta; step-father O. K. Samuel and brother Charles Hurley, Jr. Graveside memorial services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2017, in Helphrey Cemetery, Taneyvillie, Missouri. Memorial donations may be made in Ron’s memory to Boy Scouts of America, Ozark Trails Council, 1616 S. Eastgate Ave., Springfield, Missouri 65809.     Ron is missed as a Scouter and Camp Commissioner at Camp Arrowhead. He served Scouting and his Country in an exlemplary manner.
    I offer condolences to the extended family of Ron Hurley. He was a model citizen, family man, husband, friend.
