Gerald J. Lipchik, age 81 of Springfield, Missouri passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023, in Springfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He was born August 2, 1941, to his parents James and Helen (Garlik) Lipchik. On July 25, 1964, Jerry as he was fondly known, was united in marriage to Becky Schaffner.
Jerry was employed as Chief Bailiff for Madison County, Illinois courthouse for 25 years before retiring and moving to the Ozarks. He loved being outdoors, especially gardening and fishing. Jerry was also a very talented woodworker and musician who loved polkas, jazz and big band. He used song lyrics and titles to describe everything, making up his own verses to fit every situation. His musical talent and ability playing the accordion, piano and organ was remarkable. Jerry loved to laugh and joke in just about any situation. He found humor often and always had a smile to match his striking blue eyes. Jerry was a loving husband for 58 years, a supportive father and doting grandfather. For the past 10 years, Jerry enjoyed being a member of Ozark Presbyterian Church and also a member of the choir. Jerry will be sadly missed but his loving memory will live on forever in the hearts of his wonderful family and friends.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Becky; daughter Patty Shemwell; three sons Jerry Lipchik, Jr. and wife Susan, Bob Lipchik and wife Elizabeth, Mike Lipchik and wife Alissa; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister Kathy Calvert and husband Jim.
