James C. Pickens, age 64 of Sparta, passed away early Sunday morning, May 5, 2013 in his home. He was born June 2, 1948 in Fresno, California the son of J.C. and Velora Pickens. On November 5, 1991 he was united in marriage to Sharlot (Roach). Jim excelled in sports and graduated from Ava High School in 1966. He was employed with Greyhound Van Lines for many years prior to starting his own trucking business. In his spare time, he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and was an avid sportsman. He spent many days at his cabin on Bull Shoals Lake with his two fishing partners and entertained anyone else that wanted to fish. He is survived by his wife Sharlot; three daughters Melissa White and husband Don of Crane, Jamie Anderson and husband Gus of Ozark, Lora Koop and husband Ben of Ava; two sons James C. David Pickens of Ava, Eli Pickens and his girlfriend Tiffany Yocum all of Ava; a step-son Matthew Locklear and wife Crystal of North Carolina; two sisters Pat Hutchison and husband Jack of Ava, Myrna Cremeens and husband Wayne of Hopedale, Illinois; and 14 precious grandchildren who knew Jim best as grandpa Frosty. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were 2:00pm Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
