LaVonne Opal Cantrell December 27, 1935 - August 18, 2013

LaVonne Opal Cantrell, age 77 of Ava, Missouri passed away Sunday morning, August 18, 2013 in her rural home. She was born December 27, 1935 in Pontiac, Michigan the daughter of Archibald and Pearl (Heath) Warden. On September 11, 1979 she was united in marriage to Willis Cantrell. LaVonne began her career as a deputy sheriff in Los Angeles, California and served from 1968 to 1971. Later, she proudly served her country as an active member of the United States Navy for seven years, then served as a reserve officer for 31 years and retired in 1996. After retiring in 1996, she moved to Ava from Texas and enjoyed her rural life. LaVonne also held an Associate Degree in Air Craft Management and was a trained licensed pilot. She especially enjoyed flying airplanes, helicopters and skydiving. LaVonne faithfully attended and was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Ava. LaVonne is survived by her husband Willis, other caring relatives, several friends and fellow church members. She was preceded in death by her parents. Graveside funeral services were 10:00am Thursday, August 22, 2013 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri with full military honors.
