Verl O. Yates, age 85 of Ozark, Missouri passed away Monday evening, May 15, 2023, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri. He was born December 18, 1937, in Springfield, Missouri to his parents, Freeland and Della (Pogue) Yates. On April 2, 1960, Verl was united in marriage to Wilma Louise Raper, and they recently celebrated an anniversary for 63 years of marriage.
Verl was a dedicated employee of Dayco Products LLC, where he retired after many years of employment. During his younger years, Verl enjoyed spending summer weekends boating and water skiing on Table Rock Lake, in his new (at the time) 1976 runabout boat. He also loved to fish on Table Rock Lake, the surrounding lakes and nearby rivers. In the springtime, Verl walked miles in the woods hunting for mushrooms. In the Fall he walked the same wooded area deer hunting and cutting wood for the cold winter months. When the temperature became hot, Verl and Louise visited the mountains in Colorado and enjoyed the cooler weather. Verl was a special grandad that enjoyed attending his granddaughter’s gymnastics, cheerleading events and watching them grow to become adults. He especially loved attending the graduation ceremonies at their high schools and colleges. Sometimes, Verl was slightly grumpy, most times he was stubborn, but he was always a loving son, husband, father, brother and grandfather. Verl will be sadly missed but his loving memory will live on forever in the hearts of his wonderful family members.
Verl is survived by his loving wife Louise; a son Chris Yates and wife Lisa; two granddaughters Hannah Burnside and husband Ryan, and Allison Yates; a sister Karen Jennings and husband Jack; a niece Jana Wilson and husband Brian; a great niece Addison Wilson, other caring relatives and many good friends. Verl was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 1:00P.M. Friday, May 19, 2023, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark, Missouri. No visitation is planned. Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery, near Fordland, Missouri. Online condolences may be shared at www.barnesfamilyfunerals.com.
