Vonda Shortt, age 83, of Springfield, passed away October 12, 2012 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Vonda was born on January 5, 1929 to Emmett and Ona (Harvill) Shortt of Christian County. She graduated from Sparta High School followed with degrees from MSU formerly known as SMS University and Drury College.
Vonda was a teacher for many years, mostly in Springfield schools, where she retired in 1979. After retirement, she continued working with children by tutoring and volunteering in the Springfield school system. She loved working with 7 and 8 year olds. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and home decorating.
She is survived by sister, Ivonne Stone and husband John of Springfield, brothers Noel Shortt and wife Cletis of Taneyville, Lowell Shortt of Springfield, Dale Shortt of Ozark, and Don Shortt and wife Donna of Festus, several nieces and nephews. Vonda was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a Christian and an example to all who knew her of how to live a faith based life. She will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, compassionate heart and her way of making others feel valued and loved. Her love touched us all.
A special thank you for the wonderful Hospice team. She loved and appreciated all of you, especially Brenda, Karen and Julie.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 15, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in Barnes Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery. No visitation is planned.
